5 Major Reasons You Should NOT Skip Breakfast

There are many reasons to add breakfast to your daily routine. This one simple change can positively impact your energy level, blood sugar level, weight and even your ability to focus and be productive. The key to gaining these benefits is to add a healthy breakfast, not one high in fat or sugar. The best options are foods that are protein- and fiber-rich.

1.Protein in the morning helps One avoid junk food

While eating any sort of breakfast will make you feel less hungry and more satisfied through the morning, a high-protein breakfast will extend these benefits throughout the entire day. An interesting article in Atlantic describes research in which people who ate a protein-rich breakfast of eggs, meat and/or yogurt were less likely to indulge in fatty snacks during the following evening. Special electronic testing showed that the brain-centers associated with cravings remained less active in these test subjects, so it was easier for them to “just say no.”

2.Brain Function

Breakfast is an important tool in maintaining effective cognitive functioning.Blood sugar levels are low after the night-time, and a breakfast that features whole grains, proteins and high-fiber foods will sustain the steady blood glucose levels that our brains need in order to perform. It has to be noted that eating breakfast may help improve school children's scores in math, reading and on standardized tests. Breakfast is also very critical in  helping  improve attention, problem-solving ability and memory. According to Researchers people who forgo breakfast are not as productive at work, are less effective problem solvers and have less mental clarity compared to people who regularly eat a healthy breakfast.

3.Energy Levels

If you struggle with a lack of energy or frequent energy slumps mid-morning, you may be inadvertently causing this condition by skipping breakfast. Your brain and body need glucose in order to function effectively. After fasting all night, breakfast fuels your body so you start the day with energy. In short People who eat breakfast simply have more physical energy, which leads them to get more exercise. Breakfast-eating releases signals into the blood stream that indicate the availability of energy, motivating people to naturally become more active. So don’t skip breakfast.

4.Weight Maintenance

Eating breakfast may be an effective component of a weight-loss or maintenance program. It is reported that children who regularly eat breakfast are less likely to struggle with weight problems. People who eat breakfast tend to take in less calories in a day than their non-breakfast-eating counterparts.Research has shown that individuals who do not eat breakfast tend to snack more on sugary or high-fat foods, overeat in the evening and are more likely to be overweight. One reason for weight gain in non-breakfast eaters may be due to the prolonged fasting state your body enters if you go too long without eating. When you finally eat, it stores food as fat as a survival mechanism.

5.Health Issues

If you skip breakfast, you may also be depriving your body of adequate nutrition. Breakfast skippers tend to be deficient in minerals such as calcium, in addition to not getting enough fruits and vegetables that provide important vitamins. Some  studies show that  students who eat breakfast get more important nutrients, vitamins and minerals than those who don't eat in the morning.  There are other problems with skipping breakfast too, including a risk of developing high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the "bad" cholesterol implicated in heart disease. This studies also find  a higher level of resistance to insulin in individuals who consistently miss the morning meal.
